CarStamp Support

Answers to the common questions, and how to reach us when they are not enough.

Contact

Write to support@carstamp.app. Tell us your device, its system version, the CarStamp version (Settings, About) and what happened. A screenshot helps. Please don't send your backup file unless we ask for it.

We read every message and answer in English or Bulgarian.

Getting started

  1. Open CarStamp and tap Add Your Car. A name is enough to begin; make, model, plate, VIN and the rest can be added any time with Edit Vehicle.
  2. Add your last fill-up, service or expense with Add a Record, or scan the receipt and let CarStamp read it.
  3. Set up maintenance and renewals (insurance, inspection, vignette, road tax) so CarStamp can remind you before they are due.

CarStamp is free for one car, for good. It needs no account and works on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro, in English and Bulgarian. It works for motorcycles and vans too.

Moving from another app? See "Importing from another app" below.

Moving your data to another device

You have two ways:

  • A backup file (free). On the device that has your data: Settings, Backup, Back Up…, and save the file to iCloud Drive, Files, or send it with AirDrop. On the other device: Settings, Backup, Restore from Backup… and pick the file. An empty iPad or Mac also offers Restore from a Backup… on its welcome screen. A backup is a copy taken at one moment: what you add afterwards stays on the device where you add it.
  • iCloud sync (CarStamp Pro). Turn on Sync with iCloud in Settings on each device, signed in to the same Apple Account. Your cars and records then stay in step on all of them.

Without Pro, each device keeps its own data.

Backup and restore

  • Back Up… saves one file with all your cars, records, attachments, documents and maintenance items. On a Mac it is also in the File menu.
  • Restore from Backup… adds the cars from the file that are not already on the device. Nothing on the device is replaced, and restoring the same file twice adds nothing. Restoring is never blocked by the free one-car limit.
  • Export CSV… gives every record as a spreadsheet for Numbers or Excel: fuel, charging, expenses, mileage and each service line by line, with invoice numbers, part brands, where each part was bought and whether you did the work yourself. It is not a backup: tires, documents, the maintenance plan, recurring costs and attached files are only in the backup, so use Back Up… to keep everything.

The backup file is not encrypted and holds everything about your cars, including number plates, VINs and document pages. Keep it somewhere private.

Importing from another app

CarStamp reads the files Fuelio, Drivvo, Fuelly, aCar and Road Trip export directly, and any other spreadsheet saved as CSV.

  1. In the other app, export your data as a CSV file (see that app's help for where its export is) and save it to Files or iCloud Drive.
  2. In CarStamp, add the car first, then open its overview and tap Import from CSV… (it is also at the bottom of the add menu, and on a Mac in File, Import CSV…).
  3. Pick the file. Fuelio, Drivvo, Fuelly, aCar and Road Trip files are recognized without mapping any columns; if a file holds several cars, CarStamp asks which one to import. For any other CSV, check which column is the date, amount, mileage and so on.
  4. Check the preview and the categories, then import.

If letters look wrong, choose another encoding (UTF-8, Cyrillic Windows-1251 or Latin-1). A date and either an amount or a mileage are needed on each row. Older amounts in leva can be converted to euro during the import.

Reading receipts

Scan a receipt or invoice, or choose a photo or PDF, and CarStamp fills in the record for you to check. The text is read on your device; nothing is sent anywhere.

Without Pro you get 10 free reads, and a scan keeps the receipt's photo on the record. A read that fails or is canceled is given back, and the count is shared across your devices. Type It In is always one tap away. With Pro, reads are unlimited.

Scanning the odometer

On iPhone and iPad, the camera button beside every mileage field reads the odometer from the dashboard. Point the camera at the odometer: only numbers close to the car's last mileage are framed, so the trip, the range, the clock and the temperature are left out. When one reading holds steady, a Use button with it appears; or tap the framed number. If nothing is framed, the line at the top says why (no number in view, glare, or nothing near the last mileage, with Show All Numbers), and Type It In is always there. It is free, and the picture never leaves your device.

CarStamp Pro

CarStamp Pro adds:

  • More cars, and new records on a sold car.
  • iCloud sync between your devices.
  • Detailed Insights, and every period: earlier years, everything since your first record, and dates you choose.
  • Unlimited receipt reading, photos and files on records, and pages for every document.
  • The service history PDF to share, save or print.
  • Siri, Shortcuts and Control Center, and renewals paid in parts with a reminder for each payment.
  • Widgets, part and workshop history, tire sets, Calendar sync and app icons.

Free tastes: the scan photo for the first 10 reads, and one document with up to 2 pages. Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time Lifetime purchase. New subscribers get a 14-day free trial on the yearly plan, once per Apple Account; nothing is charged if they cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.

  • See the plans and prices for your country: in the app, Settings, CarStamp Pro (on a Mac, the CarStamp Pro tab in Settings).
  • One purchase, every device: Pro bought on your iPhone also works on your iPad and Mac, signed in to the same Apple Account. Open CarStamp Pro there and it is on, or tap Restore Purchases.
  • Family Sharing works with all three plans.
  • Restore purchases: Settings, CarStamp Pro, Restore Purchases, signed in to the Apple Account that bought Pro. You can also redeem an offer code there.
  • Manage or cancel a subscription: this is done in your Apple Account settings, not in the app. On iPhone or iPad: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. On a Mac: App Store, your name, Account Settings, Subscriptions. Or open your subscriptions in your Apple Account.
  • Refunds: Apple handles every payment, so refunds are requested from Apple on reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue refunds ourselves, and we never see your payment details.

If a renewal payment fails, Pro stays on for up to 16 days while Apple tries to charge again. Update your payment method in your Apple Account settings so Pro doesn't end. A Lifetime purchase never renews, so this doesn't apply to it.

What happens when Pro ends

Nothing is deleted, on your devices or in iCloud.

  • Every car, record, document and attachment stays visible, editable, exportable and deletable.
  • Logging, alerts, Mark Done and Renew keep working for every car, tire alerts included.
  • A second active car stays fully usable; adding another car needs Pro again.
  • Sold cars keep all their records; adding new records to them needs Pro again.
  • iCloud sync stops at the next launch. The data stays on the device and in iCloud, and sync resumes when Pro does. A device that stopped syncing shows Not in step since and the date.
  • Detailed Insights return to the blurred preview.
  • The service history PDF is locked again. PDFs you already shared or saved are your files and stay as they are.
  • Calendar events already added stay, but stop updating.
  • The app icon you chose stays.
  • Widgets show a locked state.

You see one plain notice at the next launch, and no push notifications.

Calendar sync

With Pro, CarStamp can put renewals and maintenance dates in a calendar of your choice (Settings, Calendar), with your alerts as the event's alarms. It goes one way, from CarStamp to the calendar: change dates in CarStamp, since an event edited in Calendar is rewritten when its item changes. Events you add yourself, even in the "CarStamp" calendar, are never changed or removed, and they don't come into the app.

Notifications not arriving

  1. In CarStamp: Settings, Notifications, Allow alerts is on. This is set separately on each device. Check the Alert time too.
  2. In the device's Settings, Notifications, CarStamp: notifications are allowed. If CarStamp says notifications are turned off, this is where to turn them on. Check that a Focus isn't silencing them.
  3. The item has a date or a mileage limit, and an alert. Items set to Default use the alerts in Settings, Notifications; each item can have its own in its editor. Paused or completed items don't alert.
  4. For items due at a mileage, the alert day is worked out from your recent driving. Update the mileage now and then so the day stays right.
  5. Open CarStamp after big changes: each device schedules its own alerts. The system holds a limited number of pending notifications per app, so CarStamp schedules the soonest ones and adds the rest as they come closer; when not everything fits, a notification asks you to open CarStamp.

Sync troubleshooting

  1. Pro is active on the device: Settings, CarStamp Pro. If it isn't, tap Restore Purchases.
  2. Sync with iCloud is on in CarStamp's Settings on every device. It is a setting per device.
  3. Same Apple Account, signed in to iCloud, on every device, and CarStamp is allowed to use iCloud in the device's iCloud settings. The line under the sync switch says what is wrong: Not Signed In, iCloud Unavailable (try again later) or iCloud Restricted (for example by Screen Time or a device management profile).
  4. iCloud storage is not full. Receipts and document pages can take space.
  5. Give it a moment with the app open on both devices and a network connection. Low Power Mode and Low Data Mode can delay sync.
  6. On a Mac with cars saved before iCloud was set up, use Move … to iCloud under the sync switch. The copy on the Mac stays.
  7. "Not in step since" and a date means Pro ended on that device. Nothing is lost; sync resumes with Pro.

Before trying anything drastic, make a backup with Back Up…. Turning sync off deletes nothing, here or in iCloud.

Deleting your data

  • One car and everything recorded for it: open the car, Edit Vehicle, Delete Vehicle. With sync on, it is deleted from iCloud and your other devices too.
  • Workshops, stations and shops: Settings, Providers. Delete Unused removes the ones no record uses.
  • Everything on a device: delete the app.
  • Everything in iCloud: delete every car while sync is on, or remove CarStamp's data in your device's iCloud storage settings if CarStamp is listed there.
  • Calendar events: turn off Calendar sync in Settings, Calendar. CarStamp removes the events it wrote on that device.
  • Backups and exports: delete the files where you saved them.

The developer holds none of your data, so there is nothing to delete on our side. See the Privacy Policy.
