CarStamp Privacy Policy

Effective date:

The short version

  • CarStamp has no account, no server, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
  • What you enter stays on your devices. With CarStamp Pro and iCloud sync turned on, it is also kept in your own iCloud, under your Apple Account.
  • The developer never receives your cars, records, photos, documents or anything else you put into the app.
  • Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. The developer never sees your name, email address or payment details.
  • Receipts are read on your device. Nothing is sent to a server to be read.
  • The only personal data the developer receives is what you choose to send by email when you ask for help.

1. Who is responsible

CarStamp is made by Emil Georgiev, an individual developer based in Bulgaria ("the developer", "we"). For any personal data the developer does receive (see sections 7 and 8), the developer is the controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. What the app keeps, and where

On your device

Everything you enter is stored in the app's database on your device: your cars (name, make, model, year, VIN, number plate, purchase and sale details, photos), your records (fuel and charging, services with their parts and labor, expenses, mileage, notes), maintenance items and renewals, tire sets, documents with their pages, attachments such as receipt photos and invoices, recurring costs, and the workshops, stations and shops you name (with any address, phone number or website you add).

The app also keeps its own settings on the device, such as whether iCloud sync and notifications are on, your alert time, the calendars you chose and whether CarStamp Pro is active.

This data is protected by your device's own security (its passcode and encryption). The developer has no way to reach it.

In your iCloud (CarStamp Pro, sync turned on)

When you have CarStamp Pro and Sync with iCloud is on, the app's database is mirrored to the private iCloud database of your own Apple Account, so your other devices signed in to the same account receive it. Only you can read your private iCloud database: the developer has no access to it. Apple stores it under the iCloud terms and the privacy policy you agreed with Apple.

Turning sync off, or Pro ending, deletes nothing: the data stays on the device and in iCloud.

Small settings in iCloud (everyone signed in to iCloud)

Two small sets of values use iCloud key-value storage, so they follow you to your other devices even without Pro:

  • the default alert times you set in Settings, Notifications;
  • how many free receipt reads you have used.

They contain no car data, and the developer cannot see them.

For widgets

So that widgets can draw without opening the database, the app writes a small file into a folder on the device that only CarStamp and its widgets can read. It holds what widgets show: each car's name and plate, mileage, what is due, renewals, recent records and spending. A second small file holds whether Pro is active. Both stay on the device. Widgets on your Home Screen or Lock Screen show this information to anyone who can see your screen, so add them only where that suits you.

Spotlight, Siri and Shortcuts

So that you can find a car or a record from the Home Screen search and use CarStamp in Siri and Shortcuts, the app adds your cars, records and upcoming items to the device's own Spotlight index. The index stays on the device. When you speak to Siri, Apple handles your request under your Siri settings and Apple's privacy policy.

3. Permissions the app asks for

CarStamp asks for a permission only when you first use the feature that needs it. You can change every one of them later in your device's Settings.

Permissions the app asks for
PermissionWhen it is askedWhyIf you say no
Camera (iPhone, iPad)The first time you scanTo scan receipts, invoices and document pages with Apple's document scanner, and to read the mileage from your odometer. The picture is read on your device and never savedPick a photo or a file instead, or type the record or the mileage in
NotificationsWhen you create your first reminder, or turn on Allow alerts in Settings, NotificationsTo alert you before maintenance, renewals and reminders are due. They are scheduled on the device; nothing is sent from a serverNo alerts; everything else works
Calendar, full access (CarStamp Pro)When you turn on Calendar sync in Settings, CalendarTo add renewals and maintenance dates to the calendar you choose and keep them up to date. Full access is needed to list your calendars, create a "CarStamp" calendar and update or remove the events CarStamp wrote. CarStamp reads only the list of your calendars and its own events, never your other eventsNo calendar events

What the app uses without asking for a permission, because the system only hands over what you pick:

  • Photos: Apple's photo picker gives CarStamp only the photos you select (for a car's picture, an attachment, a document page or a receipt to read). The app has no access to the rest of your library.
  • Files: the system file picker gives CarStamp only the files you choose (a backup to restore, a CSV file to import, a PDF or image to attach).

What the app never asks for: your location, microphone, contacts, health data, or permission to track you across apps and websites.

4. Reading receipts happens on your device

When you scan or choose a receipt or invoice, CarStamp reads its text with Apple's on-device text recognition. On devices with Apple Intelligence, the app may also ask Apple's on-device language model to line up an invoice's items. Both run entirely on the device: the image and its text are not sent anywhere, and the app does not use Apple's Private Cloud Compute for your documents.

5. Purchases

CarStamp Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and manages the subscription under your agreement with Apple and Apple's privacy policy, not on the developer's behalf. The app asks Apple only whether Pro is active on your Apple Account and keeps that status on the device. The developer never receives your name, email address, Apple Account or payment details. App Store Connect gives the developer sales figures that do not identify you.

Restoring purchases, Family Sharing, redeeming codes, cancelling and refunds all go through Apple.

The app may also show Apple's standard rating prompt. Apple shows it and handles any rating you give.

6. Files you create and share

CarStamp can create files at your request. They are saved or shared only where you choose (Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, Mail, Messages and so on); the app uploads nothing.

  • Backup: one file with all your cars, records, attachments, documents and maintenance items. It is not encrypted: anyone who has the file can open it, so keep it somewhere safe.
  • CSV export: every record as a spreadsheet.
  • Service history PDF: the car (including its number plate and VIN), its services and, if you choose, amounts, fuel and other costs, and the receipts and invoices attached to the included records. Your name is on it only if you enter it.
  • Hand Over to New Owner: one car's history as a .carstamp file for the next owner. It never contains what you paid or were paid for the car, your estimate of its value or your other cars. Costs, receipts and photos, and documents are included only if you choose them.

Once a file leaves the app, the people and services you send it to handle it.

7. What the developer receives

From the app: nothing. CarStamp has no account, no server of its own, and no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking code. Apart from Apple's own services described above (iCloud, the App Store, notifications and Siri), the app makes no network connections. On the App Store, CarStamp's privacy label is "Data Not Collected".

From Apple: if you have chosen in your device's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give the developer crash reports and usage statistics that do not identify you. You control this in your device's Privacy settings, under Analytics.

8. When you contact support

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use them only to answer you and to fix the problem you report.

  • Lawful basis: your request (GDPR Article 6(1)(b), steps taken at your request) and our legitimate interest in supporting the app and fixing problems (Article 6(1)(f)).
  • Retention: we keep the correspondence while it is needed to help you, and delete it within 2 years of our last message.
  • Who else handles it: only the email service that delivers and stores our mail. We never sell or share it with anyone else.

Please do not send backup files or documents unless we ask for them for a specific problem: they contain more personal data than we usually need.

9. This website

This website, carstamp.app, is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare keeps standard server access logs, for example IP addresses, for security and to operate the service. The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other websites.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict and port your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Here is how they apply to CarStamp:

  • Data in the app and in your iCloud: the developer does not hold it, so you exercise these rights directly. You can see and correct everything in the app, take a copy with a backup or a CSV export, and delete it as described in section 11.
  • Data held by Apple (your Apple Account, purchases, iCloud): ask Apple, through Apple's privacy pages.
  • Support emails: write to support@carstamp.app to get a copy, have it corrected or have it deleted. We answer within one month.

You may also complain to the Bulgarian Commission for Personal Data Protection (Комисия за защита на личните данни, cpdp.bg), or to the data protection authority where you live or work.

11. Deleting your data

  • A car and everything recorded for it: open the car, choose Edit Vehicle, then Delete Vehicle. With sync on, it is also deleted from iCloud and your other devices.
  • Workshops, stations and shops: Settings, Providers.
  • Everything on one device: delete the app. This removes its database, its widget files and its settings from that device.
  • What is in iCloud: delete every car while sync is on, or remove CarStamp's data in your device's iCloud storage settings if CarStamp is listed there.
  • Backups and other files you exported: delete them wherever you saved them.
  • Calendar events: turning off Calendar sync removes the events CarStamp wrote on that device.

12. Children

CarStamp is meant for drivers and car owners. It collects no personal data from anyone, children included. If a child has emailed us and a parent or guardian wants the message deleted, write to us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

If what the app does with data changes, this page will be updated before the change reaches the app, with a new effective date at the top. A change that means the developer would receive data from the app will also be explained in the app before it applies.
